Our Story

This website, Being in the Moment, is under the umbrella of the 501 c3 non profit In the Moment. (link to www.in-themoment.net) Although In the Moment was founded in 2018, the LLC of the same name set the foundation of 23 years doing work in the field of dementia.

Our Chief Purpose, Karen Stobbe began to delve into the world of Alzheimer’s disease after her father Manfred was diagnosed in 1996. She read the books, went to workshops and joined many a chat group.

She worked with Milwaukee Public Theatre to develop a branch of the non-profit company focused on Healing Arts. Sometimes Ya Gotta Laugh, a touring performance about caregiving was developed and taken across the state of Wisconsin and then to over 50 more locations.

Since then the focus has been on interactive education, whether it is in person or instructor led videos or a performance.

Manny + Virginia
Manfred and Virginia Stobbe

Manfred passed away on October 13, 2000 and her Mom, Virginia was diagnosed a year and a half later.  Virginia lived with Karen, her husband Mondy and their daughter Grace for 11 years. They had a hard but wonderful rollercoaster ride together and  miss her very much.

Virginia died 2 days before her 93rd birthday in 2018.

Karen understands what it means to be a family caregiver.

No matter who you are, no matter what your job is, it is always different when it is your loved one who has dementia.

The Focus of www.beinginthemoment.org  is to bring free tips, techniques and ideas to families and friends of those living with dementia.

This site is dedicated to the memory of  Manfred and Virginia Stobbe.
