Stickie Notes

I love stickie notes. They are so useful in so many ways. We used them a lot with my Mom. Sometimes she would take them down and throw them away. Sometimes she would write back on the note in very small handwriting. but most of the time they were very helpful to all of us. So grab some stickies and a marker and write a few notes….

Give a ticket

Have you ever noticed how many older people are sitting in cars at grocery stores? We break glass for dogs who are left in cars. We call the police. Which I would do too if I saw a pup sitting in a hot car. But we leave our Moms and Dads and Grandparents sitting in cars while we “run” into the store. Some with the car running, some with the windows down. Some look scared, worried, or anxious. Please bring them in the store with you. A baggie of twist ties

My Mom passed away several years ago. She lived with us and us with her for over 10 years. During the last few years she wrote her name on everything. It was on the bottom of her favorite coffee mug, bottom of bowls, inside puzzle books, on her brush and in every Shel Silverstein book we own. I think she did it because she grew up in the depressionLow mood that prevents a person from leading a normal life. It’s more than feeling down or sad. It…

Keep Their Abilities Alive

Everyone has different abilities. We all need help with things that we are not so skilled at. Some people change their own oil and I prefer to take it to the nice guys who do it for me (and I pay them). Some people can bake gorgeous birthday cakes and I prefer to go to a wonderful lady who went to school to learn how to make yummy desserts. Some of us lose some abilities because of many reasons; accidents, diseases, age or genes. Persons living with dementiaDementia is not a specific disease. It’s an overall term that describes…

My Pal Alz

By Larry L. Hamilton  KAREN STOBBE asked me to write about my experience with Alzheimer’s DiseaseA progressive, degenerative form of dementia that causes severe intellectual deterioration. The first symptoms are impaired memory, followed by impaired thought and speech, an inability to care for oneself and, eventually, death. Onset can be associated with or preceded by depression…. More with the idea that I might be able to help newcomers to the disease “get prepared” for what comes next. People who have known me for a long time know that I love to talk, and probably some of them tried to…
